State of the Credit Union Industry – Peer Information and Trends

Mike Schenk, VP Research & Policy Analysis, Credit Union National Association

Mike SchenkMike has over 25 years of experience in the financial services industry.  He joined the Credit Union National Association (CUNA) in 1992. He conducts economic research and supports CUNA’s public relations and lobbying efforts. His analyses regularly appear in trade publications such as Credit Union Magazine.  He also is a frequent contributor in the financial media – including CNBC, Bloomberg, and CNN Money.

Mike serves on the board of a $1.5 billion credit union. In his six-year role as a credit union director, Mike served as treasurer and as chair of his credit union’s asset liability management committee.  Before joining CUNA in 1992, Mike served in director level positions in the mutual fund and in the savings institution industries. 

Mike has a bachelor’s degree in economics and an MBA in Finance with a concentration in Banking and Financial Intermediation.

Mike Atkins, CIO, Bellco CU

Mike AtkinsOpen Technology Solutions is a multi-credit union CUSO formed in 2003 to provide a comprehensive suite of collaborative technology solutions for its partner credit unions. Open Technology Solutions is jointly owned by Bellco Credit Union, Bethpage Federal Credit Union, and SECU of Maryland. Mike serves on various industry boards and advisory groups, including the National Association of Credit Union Service Organizations (NACUSO), the CUNA Technology Council Executive Committee, the CUFX governance committee, and various advisory groups related to the Fiserv DNA core platform. Prior to the formation of Open Technology Solutions, he served as Chief Information Officer for Bellco Credit Union and as Interim President and Chief Operating Officer for a financial services solution provider offering home banking and electronic bill payment products. In addition, Mike was founder and president of an independent consultancy, where he assisted credit unions for over twelve years in business planning, technology planning, software selection and technology implementations. He also served as a senior practitioner with Deloitte Consulting for ten years, managing business and technology projects for financial services companies.

Nader Moghaddam, CEO, Financial Partners CU

Nader MoghaddamMoghaddam currently serves as Chair of the CUNA CEO Council, Vice Chair of the CA & NV CU Leagues Board of Directors and Vice Chair of the Board of Directors for CU Direct. He is Past Chair of the National Credit Union Roundtable; Past Chair of the CUNA Council Forum; and Past Chair ACUMA Board of Directors. Moghaddam Chairs the Advisory Committee of CU For Kids Orange County and he is Board Chair of Columbia Memorial Space Science Learning Center.


Chris Oldag, CLO/VP, Pacific Service CU

Chris OldagChris’s career in lending spans 37 years with executive roles at CUs from $66M to $4B total assets.  He has managed successful enterprises contributing to asset growth from auto dealership to an acceptance corporation, established commissioned outside home loan agent programs, created auto equity loan products,  and implemented successful  participation lending at numerous CUs.  Chris is a graduate of St. Mary’s  (Moraga, CA) and completed Stanford Executive Development Program.   Chris is currently the CLO of Pacific Service Credit Union (Concord, CA $1.2B Assets) and very proud to be CUNA Councils member for more than 15 years!
