Data breaches continue to dominate the news, and credit unions struggle to essentially transform from “insecure” to “secure” almost overnight. Wes Withrow, TraceSecurity Cybersecurity Expert, will provide reasons why your credit union should “bake-in” security as a process. You will hear about life after a data breach from a personnel, processes, and technology perspective and things to consider at three milestones in the first year of breach aftermath.
Wes Withrow, Cybersecurity Subject Matter Expert
For more than 15 years, Wes has worked in IT and information security. He began his career as a systems engineer at Under Armour, the global leader in performance apparel. Wes then joined the nation’s largest university affiliated research center, The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory, which for over 70 years has provided our nation with critical contributions in the area of national security and space. At the Applied Physics Lab, Wes served in roles that included enterprise IT operations management, systems engineering, and information security, working closely with multiple branches of the Department of Defense. Wes leveraged the diversity of his expertise to become the CIO at a business and technology consulting group responsible for providing managed IT services to industries that include legal, finance, oil and gas, healthcare, and education. Wes obtained a Master of Science in Information Systems from The Johns Hopkins University and a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Davis and Elkins College. He holds 13 industry certifications, which include the CISSP, CompTIA Security+, CompTIA Network+, Six Sigma, and HIPAA from both The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and the U.S Department of the Navy, and has first-hand experience responding to state-sponsored cyber attacks.
