The CUNA Marketing & Business Development Council's Business Development Professional of the Year Award recognizes and honors an individual who exemplifies excellence in credit union business development. This distinction is reserved exclusively for the credit union business development elite: individuals who, in all aspects of their chosen profession, consistently excel in perpetuating the growth of credit union membership and expansion of services, while maintaining the ideals of the credit union movement.

Hear from your 2017 Winner

Julie Monahan, Business Development Officer, First Heritage Federal Credit Union: “It’s hard to put into words exactly what I have gotten out of this experience. Especially since the year is still underway; however, I do believe it was a game changing award for me. No one really knows or understands what we as business development professionals do in the credit union industry unless you are one or micro-manage your team and depending on the size of your organization your job duties will differ from mine. Being newer to the industry and receiving this award has been incredible. From the trip to conference, to hearing my introduction, to the phone call that I was the recipient it was all moments that I will never forget – it was a moment that you realize your efforts do make a difference and someone is recognizing them. I can’t wait to share this moment with the 2018 recipient.”

What does the BDPOY Award mean to you and your credit union? “This award still brings tears to my eyes – it makes me so proud. I sell my sole to make our credit union even more incredible every day and I honestly bleed my organization’s colors. Winning this award, being recognized for this achievement by CUNA solidified my daily efforts for our organization. I knew that I was doing exactly what I needed to in order to help our organization grow and that the CUNA group supported and believed that my efforts were worth recognizing. I know the bar is continually rising and every day when I look at this award I think… I can do more, I am making a difference.”

What would you say to others thinking about applying for the 2018 Award? “Apply- Apply- Apply. We are all incredible. We all do such amazing things and push each other to be better and do more. Regardless of the size of your organization, if you are selling your sole and bleeding your colors every day in your efforts to promote and grow your credit union then apply. We want to read your application! We want to recognize you!”

Winner Recognition

The winner will be announced at the 25th Annual CUNA Marketing & Business Development Council Conference, March 11-14, 2018 in San Francisco. The winner should plan on attending the conference and will receive the following:

  • The prestigious Business Development Professional of the Year award;
  • Recognition in Credit Union Magazine;
  • Complimentary registration to the conference;
  • The opportunity to help select the following year's recipient and present the award.
