Taylor C. Nelms, PhD

Taylor C. Nelms is an anthropologist and ethnographer with 15 years of experience studying money, technology, and consumer and cooperative finance, as well as growing and guiding creative, cross-sector, public-facing collaborations in industry, academia, and nonprofits. Taylor is currently the Senior Director of Market Insights & Advisory Services at the Filene Research Institute, a leading consumer finance think tank. In that capacity, he leads the organization's thought leadership, custom and commissioned research, and growing consulting business. He previously led Filene’s original research strategy. At Filene, Taylor manages a team of researchers and consultants and oversees a portfolio of partnerships to pursue cutting-edge, actionable research that explores people’s changing economic lives and the past, present, and future of money, technology, and the business of financial services. Taylor received his PhD in Anthropology from the University of California, Irvine, where he also worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Department of Anthropology and a Research Assistant at the Institute for Money, Technology and Financial Inclusion. He also holds degrees from the University of Cambridge and The Ohio State University. He is a former Gates Cambridge Scholar and current Editor at Large (and former Editor in Chief) of the Journal of Cultural Economy.
